Boys are genrally more active than girls. However, parents are very quick to send their sons to doctors and get them diagnosed with ADHD. Personally, I think it is an excuse for the parents' lack of patience to discipline their child. I was known to be a hyperactive child, more active than a normal child but my parents never had to bring me to the doctor. They disciplined me and think of ways to help me channel my energy instead of using medication. I think that is the problem with today's society and with the availability and accessibility of medicine, people are too quick to use these diagnosis as an excuse with whatever problems they are dealing with, especially with trivial things like ADHD. Before people discovered ADHD, children were disciplined and tamed with traditional methods. After reading this article, it makes it seem as if parents nowadays are not as patient or if bluntly put, lazy to have to deal with the activeness of their children and so resolve to using medication to suppress them. If people were to ask why their child was so hyperactive, they can simply say 'Oh, they have ADHD. That's why.' ADHD is not a sickness that medication can cure.
Tripper: I agree with your morality; I support it. However, it is also important to realize that this is a morality we share: an evaluation. Sociologically speaking, on the other hand, what we observe here is a retreat from parenting, a retreat from responsibility, an advancement of the corporatized control of citizens. It is not an advancement that you or I like, but it is a pattern. thanks for your great comment.
